PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the yield of the subject reaction and achieve smooth reaction to improve the operability by reacting an organic amine salt of a 7-acylamino-3-hydroxymethyl-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid with a reactive derivative of carbamic acid. SOLUTION: An ester of a 7-acylamino-3-carbamoyloxymethyl-3-cephem-4- carboxylic acid corresponding to the starting compound is produced by acylating an organic amine salt of a 7-amino-3-hydroxymethyl-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid, carbamoylating the produced organic amine salt of 7-acylamino-3- hydroxymethyl-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid to obtain an organic amine salt of 7-acylamino-3-carbamoyloxymethyl-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid and esterifying the product. The yield and purity of the product can be improved by this process.
