PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To process only correct input data by performing the recording operation with input data received in a time band of set data processing characteristics. SOLUTION: When input data is print data, an input data receiving section 3 checks presence of relevant data processing characteristics at current time in a time band input data characteristics check table set in an input data memory 4. If it is present, a pattern developing section 7 analyzes the input data and develops a pattern in a pattern develop memory 8. A pattern output section 9 outputs the writing content of the pattern develop memory onto the surface of a sheet. When the input data is not the print data, the input data receiving section 3 makes a decision whether that data designates modification of the time band input data characteristics. If it designates modification, a time band input data characteristics setting section 5 sets the data processing characteristics in receiving data at an area where the time band of the time band input data characteristics check table matches.
