PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To store enough number of tools to be able to deal with a variety of machining specifications at the same level as a large machining center through being compact while maintaining a prompt functionality as a small machining center. SOLUTION: An automatic tool changing type machine tool comprising a body magazine 6 which follows an operation of a main shaft column 5, and being adapted to change tools mounted on a main shaft by an automatic tool changing(ATC) mechanism is organized such that a spare tool changing device formed with a spare magazine 12, a hand part 13 comprising a tool gripping part and a rotation driving part, a slider mechanism part 14 adapted to move the hand part 13 vertically, and a control device is attached to a device body 1 for increasing a tool storing capacity to keep tool changing time during machining at approximately the same level as a compact-sized device and to shorten a setup changing time.
