<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new compound capable of effectively preventing and suppressing production of engine deposits, in particular inlet valve deposits, therefore useful in automotive engines and the like. SOLUTION: This new compound is a compound of formula I (A is a nitrogen-contg. ring such as 3-pyridyl, 4-pyridyl or 3-piperidyl; R1 and R2 are each H or a 1-6C alkyl, being selected independently in the case of a plurality of O-CHR1-CHR2 groups; R3 is H, a 1-100C alkyl, phenyl, a 7-100C aralkyl or the like; x is 0-4; n is about 5 to about 100) or a fuel-soluble salt thereof, e.g. a compound of formula II. This compound of formula I is obtained by deprotonation of a pyridyl compound of formula III through such a process as to catalyze the compound of formula III in a solvent such as toluene under an anhydrous condition in the presence of an appropriate base such as sodium hydride at-10 to about 120 deg.C for about 0.25 to about 3 h to form the corresponding metal salt, which, in turn is reacted with a compound of formula IV.</p> |
