PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To grasp an abnormality of an electrode and a tip without being affected by a set condition of a torch or the like by successively calculating the change in the pilot are voltage to be increased as the electrode or the tip is consumed. SOLUTION: The specified current and power is supplied between an electrode 15 and a tip 16 of a welding torch 1 by a power source controller 4 to generate the pilot arc with the power source for a pilot arc 2, the power is supplied between the electrode 15 and the tip 16 by a power source 3 for the main arc in a stage of starting the welding, and the power source 2 is stopped only during the welding period. The output of the current value of the power sources 2, 3 is adjusted by an output adjuster 5. The pilot arc voltage during the pilot arc period is detected by a voltage detector 6, and a change calculator 7 calculates the difference (the change) between the maximum quantity and the minimum quantity within the unit time of the detected pilot arc voltage waveform. When the calculated result is not less than the reference value of judgment, a decision unit 8 outputs the abnormal condition of the electrode 15 and the tip 16, and the result of the decision unit 8 is displayed on a display 9.
