PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an electrolytic capacitor strong against mechanical tress and provided with a highly reliable safety mechanism. SOLUTION: The electrolytic capacitor comprises a tubular bottomed metal case 1 containing a capacitor element 2 along with driving electrolyte, and a body 6 for sealing the opening of the metal case 1 having a hole for inserting a lead wire 4, wherein the sealing body 6 enters the metal case 1 by a specified dimension from the open end thereof to form an air gap part 7 of specified dimensions between the sealing body 6 and the open end of the metal case 1. According to the structure, a highly reliable electrolytic capacitor strong against mechanical tress can be obtained in which the lead wire 4 is blown out when internal pressure is increased through heat generation eased by abnormal voltage, e.g. lightning surge, or excess ripple and the internal circuit is interrupted surely.
