PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a measuring instrument which allows measuring while the instrument is connected with a plurality of sensors having different input ranges. SOLUTION: A measuring instrument is provided with two scaling means 181 and 182 so that the instrument may separately correspond to the inputs from linear sensors and converts the inputs from the sensors into distances by computing the outputs of the sensors respectively scaled by means of the scaling means 181 and 182. The instrument is also provided with a simple averaging means or moving averaging means for data sampled for the inputs from the sensors, a hysteresis setting means, etc. This instrument can be used for, for example, discriminating the normal/defective condition of a work by calculating the step of the work and comparing the calculated step with a preset comparative value (tolerance) by means of a discriminating means 20.
