PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for installing an electrode for water leak sensing and the electrode for water leak sensing that can be carried out without poorly affecting the reliability of water-stopping structure, improve the sensing accuracy of a water leak position, and increase the life of the electrode for water leak sensing. SOLUTION: The electrode installation method is used for sensing water leak from a water-stopping structure with a recess being formed on a base 1, and water-stopping structure 2 being provided on the base 1 along the recess, and allows the base 1 at least adjacent to the water-stopping structure 2 to retain an electrode 7 for using the distortion of potential distribution for measuring the water leak to the base 1 from the recess. The electrode 7 for water leak sensing has stake- or rod-shaped part.
