PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a deuterium lamp having improved heat radiating characteristics from the back part of a positive electrode and a longer lifetime. SOLUTION: This lamp 20 has a glass envelope 21 filled with a gas, a negative electrode 22, a positive electrode 23, electrical leads 24 airtightly passing through the envelope 21 and connected to the negative electrode 22 and the positive electrode 23, respectively, a window shield electrode 25, a negative electrode shield electrode 16, a focusing electrode 28 and a ceramics support 29. The positive electrode 23 is mounted on the backside of the ceramics support 29 and the heat radiation from the positive electrode 23 to backward is not substantially blocked.
