<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain encoding with respect to a high resolution image without losing compatibility with a device coping with only low resolution. SOLUTION: An LPF 105 extracts a low frequency component signal from a received high resolution image signal and an HPF 111 extracts a 1st high frequency component signal from the received high resolution image signal. An HPF 107 furthermore extracts a 2nd high frequency component signal from the low frequency component signal and a high frequency coding section 109 encodes the 1st and 2nd high frequency component signals. On the other hand, a low resolution video encoding section 103 that encodes a low resolution video image encodes the low frequency component signal.</p> |
