PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To transfer high-grade transfer patterns from a master carrier for magnetic transfer to a slave medium regardless of the positions of magnetic patterns by magnetic transfer. SOLUTION: This magnetic transfer method consists of disposing a single permanent magnet 8 having a magnetic field symmetrical with the axes of magnetic poles on at least either of the front surface or rear surface side of the slave medium 4 in such a manner that the axes of the magnetic poles are parallel to the slave medium surface, rotating the slave medium 4 or the permanent magnet 8 in a track direction, previously causing the initial DC magnetization of slave medium magnetization in the track direction by impression of the magnetic field to the track direction of the slave medium surface, then bringing a master carrier for magnetic transfer and the slave medium 4 subjected to the initial DC magnetization into tight contact with each other and executing the magnetic transfer by impressing the magnetic field for transfer of the direction opposite to the initial DC magnetization direction of the slave medium surface in the track direction.
