PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make reducible the power consumption of a head by forming a central magnetic pole into a shape wherein the length of a first axial direction differs from the length of a second axis orthogonal to the first axis. SOLUTION: This thin film head is composed of a lower permalloy magnetic pole 1, a thin film coil 2 formed on the lower permalloy magnetic pole 1, and a central permalloy magnetic pole 3 formed inside the thin film coil 2. The central permalloy magnetic pole 3 is magnetically in couple with the lower permalloy magnetic pole 1, magnetic flux collected using the lower permalloy magnetic pole 1 is efficiently converged in the central permalloy magnetic pole 3, and a magnetic field is generated outside from the central permalloy magnetic pole 3. The head magnetic field coinciding with an asymmetrical magnetic field zone is efficiently generated by forming the shape of the central permalloy magnetic pole 3 and the shape of the thin film coil 2 into nearly an oblong. The shortest distance from the central permalloy magnetic pole 3 to the thin film coil 2 is allowed to shorten and the generation efficiency of an induction magnetic field is increased.
