PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make transferable data in an optimum state in such a data transfer system that consists of plural data recording/reproducing devices and a data processor which can be connected to these data recording/reproducing devices and can transfer the data to them. SOLUTION: A recognition code, i.e., the identification information that can specify a voice data recording/reproducing device 20 is previously stored in a semiconductor memory 26 of the device 20 functioning as a data recording/ reproducing device. Then a personal computer 10 functioning as a data processor acquires the identification information and sets a data transfer mode for every data recording/reproducing device to change a data transfer rate or a data format, for example, according to the identification information.
