PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power converter capable of positively reducing higher harmonic components included in the current on AC power supply side. SOLUTION: A self arc-extinguishing element 9 is adapted, which performs switching operation at a high speed, as the power control element of a rectifying circuit 10B for supplying DC power to a current-mode inverter 3A for induction heating. Even if output frequency increases with decreasing inductance of a load 7 and if a current flowing through the load 7 is increased, the self arc- extinguishing element 9 operates rapidly, thus current to the load 7 is suppressed rapidly and this prevents a surge voltage from increasing and higher harmonic components included in the current on AC power source 24 side from increasing, and supply appropriate current to the load 7 so as to respond to the condition of the load 7. |
