PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an initiailzing method and its device capable of uniformly initializing a phase transition optical disk at a high speed. SOLUTION: For example, two light spots 60a, 60b are arranged at an interval of 180 degrees on the same radial position on an optical disk 1 and are moved to the outer periphery and the inner periphery of the optical disk 1 while the distance between the optical spots 60a, 60b and the center of the disk 1 is kept the same to execute initial crystallization. Thus, the initiallization for a phase transition optical disk is uniformly executed at a high speed.
