PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing a phase difference plate having good quality and no trace of bubbles with good yield. SOLUTION: A heat shrinkable film is adhered to one or both surfaces of a thermoplastic film and heated so that the thermoplastic film is stretched or shrunk in at least either of the longitudinal or transverse direction under the shrinking force of the heat shrinkable film, then releasing the heat shrinkable film to obtain a phase difference plate. In this method, the adhesion is processed through an adhesive layer, and the adhesion strength between the adhesive layer and the thermoplastic film is specified to have >=45 gf/50 mm at normal temperature. The optical member consists of a laminated body of the aforementioned phase difference plate and a polarizing plate. The liquid crystal display device includes the phase difference plate or the phase difference plate with a polarizing plate on at least one side of a liquid crystal cell. Thereby, the phase difference plate with highly controlled phase difference can be efficiently obtained, the phase difference by the double refraction of the liquid crystal cell can be highly compensated, and the obtained liquid crystal display device is excellent in the viewing angle and contrast. |
