PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To operate a charger always in the state of its high battery-charging efficiency, by performing on/off control of a FET in the vicinity of the zero- phase of its AC input voltage through the output voltage of a comparison circuit. SOLUTION: A three-phase AC generator generates three-phase AC outputs, and an single phase voltage Va of the generated three-phase AC outputs is inputted to a comparator COMP1 to send out an output determining signal JS of its determining result. The determining signal JS is inputted to a comparator COMP2, and it is compared with a reference signal Vc to send out the determining signal JS in its low output term as the gate signal of a FET. Further, at the instant when the determining signal JS is changed from a high level to a low level at a predetermined time, a transistor Q1 is brought into an on-state in the vicinity of the zero-phase of an AC input voltage to turn on a thyristor T1 by giving to it a gate signal. Thereby, a charger can be always operated in the state of its high battery-charging efficiency.
