PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a combustion apparatus where an increase in NOx is suppressed by preventing an air spiral from being formed around a flame of a secondary flame hole portion, and further preventing exhaust gas recirculation action from happening. SOLUTION: A combustion apparatus is adapted such that it includes a combustion box 4 communicated with a flame hole portion of a burner body 3 and a secondary flame hole section 14 in an upper plate 13 of the combustion box 4, and further a casing 11 located on an upper portion of the secondary flame hole portion 14. In the apparatus, there are provided a ventilating passage 18 on a lower portion opposite to a front top portion 21 of the combustion box 4 and a front plate 6 for preventing exhaust gas recirculation action emanating from the secondary flame hole portion 14.
