PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To operate an electronic component to normally and stably for a long period without causing any deterioration of its characteristic, by hermetically sealing the electronic component inside a container consisting of an insulating base and a lid. SOLUTION: A container for an electronic component consists of an insulating base 1 bonded on a lid 2 via a sealing member 8 to hermetically accommodate an electronic component 3 inside a container 4 consisting of the insulating base 1 and the lid 2. The sealing member 8 is made of glass, and in porosity of 1% or lower. By setting the porosity to be 1% or lower, hermitic sealing with higher reliability can be realized, and this makes it possible to normally and stably operate the electronic component 3 in the container for a long period. Moreover, decrease in the vacuum degree inside the container 4 or oxidizing corrosion of a surface electrode of the electronic component due to the entering of gas in pores 9 inside the sealing member 8 can be prevented.
