PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display element with little deterioration of display quality caused by temperature variation by improving the temperature characteristics of the display quality affected by high hardness and low elasticity of post spacers or the like. SOLUTION: The element comprises a pair of substrates 1, 2 equipped with transparent electrodes 5, 6, spacers 3 arranged between the pair of substrates 1, 2 to maintain the gap between them constant and a liquid crystal layer 4 enclosed between the substrates 1, 2. In this case, the spacers 3 are elastic, and the element is made in such a way that the sum of repulsion of the spacers 3 and the internal pressure of the liquid crystal layer 4 is always nearly 1 atm and the repulsion of the spacers 3 and the internal pressure of the liquid crystal layer linearly vary respectively with respect to temperature variation in the use temperature range of the element.
