PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a file management device by which the increase of a disk area in a system owing to a large amount of data exchange in an electronic exchange system among industries or different organizations using Internet or a VAN service is prevented and also an old edition file is restored in order to manage the history of data. SOLUTION: The file management device is provided, which has technique for preventing the increase of the disk area by extracting only a part which differs between a held present file and an inputted new file as a differential file and preserving it as a back-up file, technique for restoring the old file from the differential file and the present file and technique for efficiently scanning the file.
