PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a situation where a user forgets to set or reset a function by notifying automatically a calling subscriber the that the called subscriber is unable to answer the phone since he is driving a car, when an on-vehicle adapter is connected according to a detected connection or non-connection state secured to the on-vehicle adapter. SOLUTION: It is decided via an on-vehicle adapter connection/nonconnection detection means 3 of a control part 2 whether or not a connection cable 8 of an on-vehicle adapter 16 is connected to an external I/O connection part 6 of an on-vehicle portable telephone set 7. If the cable 8 is connected to the part 6, the connection/nonconnection state of the adapter 16 is detected. Then a 'driving in progress' notification setting mode is turned on to give guidance to a calling subscriber to show that the called subscriber is unable to answer the call since he is driving a car. When the connection of the cable 8 is detected via the means 3 and the connection of the adapter 16 is detected, a 'driving in progress' can be shown on a display part of the telephone set 7.
