PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp capable of stably maintaining the state of an arc and stabilizing the luminous strength of radiated lights in a short time from the start of lighting. SOLUTION: This discharge lamp is provided with a bulb 10 constituted of an arc tube part 11 surrounding a luminous space S and sealing tubes 12 continuously disposed on both ends of the space S, a positive electrode 13 and a negative electrode 14 oppositely disposed each other inside the luminous space S and an electrode bar 15 having the positive electrode 13 or negative electrode 14 on the tip thereof and extending from the sealing tube 12 of the bulb 10 toward the arc tube part 11 and a mercury is sealed in the luminous space S of the bulb 10. A heat conductive plate 30 is disposed on the end of the negative electrode 14 side in the luminous space S as the plate 30 is brought into contact with the electrode bar 15 having the negative electrode 14. Preferably, the positive electrode 13 is lit as positioned above the negative electrode 14.
