<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optimally execute color space conversion and compression processing in accordance with the output destination of read image data by reading an original even without special knowledge in an operator. SOLUTION: When an operating part 106 designates the reading mode by a sheet scanner 112 and designates whether the read image is transmitted, copied on the recording sheet of paper or outputted to a host computer, color space conversion and compression methods corresponding to the designation are decided.
