PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic document feeder furnished with a mixed loading mode function respectively transporting a document in a state of being mixed with a different size, and appropriately miniaturizing size of a device and improving productivity. SOLUTION: In this automatic document feeder adaptable to a sheet through method for reading a picture in transporting a document, the feeder is provided with size sensors group 32 detecting document width on the downstream side of paper separating/feeding part 2, a length sensor detecting length of the document in a transporting direction (any one among 12, 14, 34, or 40), and a reversing part 4 reversing the document on the upstream side of the document reading position in the transporting direction and transporting to the reading position thereof, and moreover a switching back part 8, the automatic document feeder is controlled in a mixed loading mode, so as to detect the document size from starting the transportation until when the document reaches the reading position at least, twice, and to transport the document at a specified speed in accordance with the size of the document at the time of reading the picture corresponding to the document size. |
