PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the placed position of a manually placed original and original width without increasing a photosensor, selecting the paper of an appropriate size regardless of the placed position shift of the original and to prevent an image deviation on the output image regardless of the placed position deviation of the original. SOLUTION: At the time of an original detection mode, an original size is discriminated from the detection result of the original width of an original D with respect to a main scanning direction on an original stand, which is obtained by using a CCD sensor 14, and from the detection result of first and second photosensors 24 and 26, and the paper of the prescribed size is selected. At the time of an image information reading mode, the CCD sensor 14 reads only image information on only an original area part detected by the CCD sensor 14 at the time of the original detection mode. An image processor 21 executes image processing on an image and a printer 22 forms the image in the paper of the prescribed size, which is previously selected.
