The oil-filled shock absorber has a piston (9) with a passage (92) which connects the upper and lower sections of the cylinder. A spring is fitted at the bottom of the shock absorber and acts on a plate (6). The passage is shut when the weight supported by the spring and the force of reaction of the ground on the end (11) of the shock absorber are large and is open when they cancel out or are small, allowing it to react rapidly.
