PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the interference of obstacles to a vehicle for work. SOLUTION: A position detecting device is provided with a supporting member 20 which can be attached to the car body 11 of a work vehicle 10, a plurality of displacement gauges 31-32 attached to the member 20, and an arithmetic means 40 which calculates horizontal relative displacement based on the outputs of the gauges 31-33. Of the displacement gauges 31-33, two or mote gauges (32 and 33) are directed obliquely downwardly to one side of the car body 11. Consequently, the position of the car body 11 is detected from the inside of a reference object, such as the curb 2, etc., extended along a road 1 on the car body 11 side.
