PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize fixed contact with a tongue-like piece by reducing a required width, the contact quickly opening by an electromagnetic repulsion acting on between the fixed contact and its movable contactor when short-circuit current flows therethrough. SOLUTION: A circuit breaker has a fixed contact 2 which is incorporated in a casing parallelly opposed to a movable contact, and is made of a plain rectangular conductor piece. One end of the conductor piece is formed as an outer contacting terminal portion. A central portion of a distal end of the conductor piece opposed to the movable contactor is formed as a tongue-like piece 2b extended in the same plane from the distal end of the conduct piece toward the terminal portion, and is defined by a U-like slit 2c formed along three sides of the tongue-like piece 2b. The tongue-like piece 2b has a movable contact 2d at a distal end thereof. The fixed contact 2 is formed by cutting and bending the tongue-like piece 2b, press-punching the slit 2c, and bending the tongue-like piece 2b in its place, while setting the width (d) of the slit 2c to less than the thickness (t) of the conductor piece.
