PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a character recognition device which is superior in the customization of a dictionary and can make the dictionary capacity less than that of a dictionary wherein patterns are registered for every character. SOLUTION: A recognition dictionary 10 needed for character recognition is generated in units of components constituting characters and then the dictionary size is reduced as compared with the generation of a recognition dictionary by information in character units. When a user updates the recognition dictionary 10, characters that the user inputs are automatically divided and only components which are useful for recognition are registered to update standard pattern information of all characters constituted by using the components, thereby efficiently modifying the contents of the recognition dictionary 10. |
