PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface light source unit having high use efficiency and a high ratio of a light emitting surface area with respect to an outer shape. SOLUTION: This surface light source unit 40 has a rod-like fluorescent lamp 46 disposed along one end face 45a of a light guide plate 44, an end face reflection part 52 close to and opposite to the other end face 45b of the light guide plate 44, a reflector 50 cooperating with the end face 45a to nearly enclose the fluorescent lamp 46, for reflecting light from the fluorescent lamp 46 toward the light guide plate 44, and a rear face reflection part close to and opposite to the rear face of the light guide plate 44. The rear face reflection part, the end face reflection part 52 and the reflector 50 are integrally formed into a prescribed shape. The reflector 50 is formed, such that the reflector 50 does not overlap the front face 45c of the light guide 44. The light guide plate 44 is sandwiched between the rear face reflection part and a fixing frame 30 disposed on the front face side of the light guide plate 44, and is positioned by the end face reflection part 52 and the reflector 50. |
