摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain good color reproducibility even when characteristics of a hologram color filter differ from the designed values or misalignment of the filter is caused. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal display device has a color filter 7 which diffracts and emits the incident light in a specified direction according to the incident angle and wavelength range of the light, and a light modulating layer 11 which modulates the incident light from the color filter according to the video signal for the respective colors and emits the modulated light. The layer 11 is held between the one transparent electrode 9 on which a transparent electrode 9 and an alignment layer 4 are successively formed and the other substrate 1 on which pixel electrodes 2 and an alignment layer 10 are successively formed. The pixel electrode 2 in every unit pixel has a pixel electrode 2R for a first color, a pixel electrode 2G for a second color and a pixel electrode 2B for a third color, and has a selective reflection layer 3 which is formed on the pixel electrode 2R for the first color so that the light in the wavelength range condensed in the pixel electrode 2G for the second color and in the pixel electrode 2B for the third color shows low reflectance on the pixel electrode 2R for the first color.
