Optical recording and replay with optical data storage arrangement has an optical recorder which records information on an optical storage medium, in the form of a magneto-optical disc, and further includes a first pattern generator for generating a signal corresponding to the output (power) control pattern for controlling the playback output (power) of a light-beam emitted from a semiconductor laser, and a second pattern generator for providing a signal corresponding to the phase adjustment pattern for adjusting the phase of a playback clock signal. A pattern recording device records the phase adjustment pattern and the output (power) control pattern in a prescribed sequence in each sector of the magneto-optical disc by switching between the output signals of the two pattern generators.
