Antenna apparatus for connecting to a personal radio transmitting device for reducing RF emissions (22) to a user (24), the antenna apparatus including an antenna (26) disposed above the head of the user (24), a shield (20) disposed between the antenna (26) and the head of the user (24), for blocking the RF emissions (22) from penetrating there through toward the user (24), and a communication interface, connected to the antenna (26), for communicating between the antenna apparatus and the personal radio transmitting device.
