The seat has a seat pad and a backrest, which can be folded down into a horizontal position. The seat pad is moved by a pivot lever, which is turned about axis (10,12) on the vehicle floor (2) and the seat pad (3). The distance (C) between the axis corresponds to at least half the length (D) of the seat pad measured in direction of travel (F). This permits movement of the seat pad into and its approx. horizontal alignment within the foot space (5) in front of the back seat.
