A drinking water supply has a fitting which minimises the deposition of limestone scale, and which is disinfected from time to time. The anti-limestone unit is disinfected by especially a thermal process, during which period the supply is maintained by a by-pass. During the period of thermal disinfecting, no hot water from the regular supply is released to the anti-limestone unit or vice versa. The anti-limestone unit my be one which uses physical, physico-chemical or biological operating principles.
