The invention relates to a device for incorporating sensitive additives, in particular additives sensitive to shearing or kneading, into a thermoplastic synthetic material. Said device has a plasticization zone (48), in which a plasticization worm (8), mounted in a housing (7) is located, for converting the synthetic material into a plasticized state. The plasticization worm (8) conveys the plasticized material to a worm section (20) which is configured as a relaxation zone (49). In said relaxation zone (49), at least one additive is fed to the plasticized synthetic material, using at least one conduit (24) and is mixed with the plasticized synthetic material using a worm (20). A retaining body (14) which rotates together with the plasticization worm is provided in a retaining zone (50) between the plasticization zone (7) and the relaxation zone (49). Said retaining body restricts the flow of plasticized synthetic material that passes over it. When viewed from the direction of transport of the synthetic material, at least one conduit (16) for plasticized synthetic material branches off in front of said retaining body (14) which by-passes the retaining body (14) and opens into the worm section (20) of the relaxation zone (49) or into a housing zone (31) which lies beyond said relaxation zone, once it has passed the mouth (29) of the conduit (24) for the additive. This improves the fusion of the incorporated additive with the synthetic material.
