The present invention relates to flow field plates and the manufacture thereof, for use infuel cells. The method of manufacture comprises particulate etching of a plate material using a particulate etchant (e.g. sand blasting), a particulate etchant accelerator and a particulate etchant-resistant patterned mask, such that a fluid flow pattern determined by the pattern design on said mask is formed on the plate material.
