The invention relates to a gas burner, comprising at least one probe (4), which is located in a flame area inside a burner housing (2) and which detects the combustion status of a gas-air mixture by analysing a probe potential. The probe (4) consists of an electroconductive material which takes on a potential according to collision with ions or electrons from the plasma of the flame, without an external voltage being applied. The invention therefore provides an economical and reliable means of detecting the quality of the combustion.
