The invention concerns a method for verifying a three-way catalytic converter (17) which consists in using a NOx sensor (19) to determine the NOx concentration downstream of the catalytic converter to be tested. From the measured NOx concentration (c_NOx) can be deduced the converting characteristics HC of the three-way catalytic converter by virtue of the close relationship between the NOx reaction and the HC reaction.
