Operating a brake pedal (4) up to a third of maximum slow-down rate or slowing an engine down with a contact in a slow-down sensor (5) closes the contact and lights up brake lights (1,2) with a steady burning light. The slow-down sensor selects the first stage in transmitting a signal from one to two thirds of maximum slow-down using a contact (3). In emergency or extreme braking a flasher unit (7') is triggered operating braking lights intermittently.
