Heat and pressure belt fuser structure has elastic endless belt (54) sandwiched between a pair of pressure rolls (56) to form a fusing nip (50) through which substrates (24) carrying toner images (26) pass. The belt has a deformable layer which contacts the toner images and one of the pressure rolls especially has a cooperating deformable layer (52). Both deformable layers are 0.006 - 0.125 inch but their combined thickness is not more than 0.125 inch. The pre-nip area of the belt is heated by an external heat source (42) and one of the rolls is heated during a warm-up period. An independent claim is included for a method of fixing toner images using the belt fuser structure. |
