In the present invention there is disclosed a process for preparing human erythropoietin. The preparation process is characterized by cultivating in a suitable medium eukaryotic host cells containing a DNA sequence shown in Table 3 form a ATG sequence encoding initial Met up to AGA sequence encoding terminal Arg being attached to an expression check sequence, and so prepared erythropoietin is subsequently separated from both the cells and medium.
