A gully emptier (10, Fig 1) has a downpipe 24 with a control handle 30 which is relatively movable on the downpipe. Preferably the handle is carried on a ring 34 allowing relative longitudinal movement but limiting relative rotational movement. Preferably control switches 62 are carried at the end of U-shaped handle portions 60, with the electronics therefore held in a case 42, 44 to allow remote e.g. radio control of the emptier. The weight of the handle can be carried by a spring-loaded wire. Preferably a boom (20, Fig 1) of the emptying pipe is moved via a pneumatic piston and cylinder. A catch mechanism comprising a receptacle (68, Figs 9, 10) for the downpipe when not in use and a swing arm (70) which is automatically operable are also disclosed. |
