Revolver head with compound layered armor

The turret of an armored fighting vehicle (AFV) is made with combined laminated armor. The turret front section has an embrasure (1), upper front (2), front (3), lateral (4) and back (5) armored walls with spaces for protective filling material (6). Side and near walls (8) with roof, space covers and bottom plates complete the turret construction. The embrasure (1) is a single monolith part with the other parts made of separate rolled steel armor plate. When the turret is welded together, the welds are protected from the outside by the main body of the component parts. The armored walls (2-5) are supported off the roof and bottom plates. The side (7) and lateral (4) walls may have additional side plates welded on, with intervening spaces filled with protective filling materials.
