PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain equipment for detecting malfunction of the oven cover of a coke oven which can effect detection of falling of oven cover refractories and malfunction of oven cover gripping. SOLUTION: When a removing machine body lifts an oven cover, the weight of the oven cover is supported by a support block 39 through an upper lifting shaft 35, a flanged boss 36, a thrust bearing 31, and a bearing housing 38. At this time, (tensile) strain is caused in the upper lifting shaft 35 by the weight of the over cover, and the load to be generated by this strain is measured by a load cell 50 in the bearing housing. This measured value is input to control equipment 53 through a connection box 51 and a converter 52. In the control equipment 53, the measured value and the reference value are comparatively calculated, and in the case of the weight of the oven cover <= the reference value of the oven cover, the weight of fallen refractories, i.e., their size can be detected and in the case of the gripping load of the oven cover >= the reference value of the gripping load, the oven cover gripping can be detected.
