PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a dehumidifying agent and a dehumidifying element having high dehumidifying performance in spite of a humidity environment and to produce easily and inexpensively these products. SOLUTION: In the dehumidifying element, the dehumidifying agent obtained by compounding 0.1-10.0 pts.wt. iron oxide or mixture of the iron oxide and other metal oxide to 90.0-99.9 pts.wt. silicon oxide as silica gel is deposited on an inorg. fibrous sheet. In such a case, the dehumidifying element is obtained by immersing the sheet in a soln. containing an iron salt or the iron salt and other metal salt and drying the sheet after sticking an alkali silicate or an alkoxysilane to the inorg. fibrous sheet and gelling the stuck matter.
