PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an extremely good response time, especially an extremely good response time at low temperatures by blending at least one of compounds A and at the same time at least one of compounds B other than the compound A with a liquid crystal mixture. SOLUTION: A compound A is represented by formula I wherein Ra is H or a 1-7C alkyl group; Rb is a 1-10C alkyl or alkoxy group, or a 2-10C alkenyl or alkenyloxy group; and n is 0, 1, or 2. A compound B is represented by formula II wherein Rc is H or a 1-7C alkyl group; Rd is F, OCF3, OCHF2, a 1-7C alkyl or alkoxy group, or a 2-7C alkenyl group; Y1 and Y2 each independently H or F; q is 0 or 1; and p is 0, 1 or 2. |
