PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a water-based coating composition that forms paint film having high sliding properties without paint film defect and surface defect, shows excellent adhesion and is useful for the external coating for metal cans or the like. SOLUTION: (A) A water-based resin of an acrylic resin or the like having no polyorgano-siloxane chain, (B) a curing agent, for example, a compound bearing 2 or more epoxy groups in one molecule or the like, (C) a polymer prepared by copolymerizing (i) a monomer bearing a carbon-carbon unsaturated double bond and a poly-organosiloxane chain in one molecule and (ii) a monomer represented by the formula (R1 is H, methyl; R2 is phenyl, a 1-22C alkyl, CH2= CR1-CO-; m and n are each 0-1,000; m+n>=1) are dissolved or dispersed in an aqueous medium. In a preferred embodiment, the component I is 0.001-10 wt.% based on 100 wt.% of the components A through C.
