PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To keep a high barrier property even under a high humidity condition by providing a composite coating film layer formed of a mixture of which the major components are polyvinyl alcohol, an inorganic stratiform compound and boric acid, on one surface of a base material for this gas barrier film. SOLUTION: For this gas barrier film, on one surface of a base material, a composite coating film layer formed of a mixture of which the major components are polyvinyl alcohol, a clay mineral such as smectite, hectolite, suponite, mica, montmorillonite, or an inorganic stratiform compound such as zinc phosphate, cobalt phosphate, a vanadium oxide salt, aluminum phosphate, vanadium phosphate, oxovanadium phosphate, and a metal salt of bisphosphonic zinc or the like, and boric acid, is provided. By this constitution, the oxygen permeability and the steam permeability are low, and the deterioration by humidity can be suppressed, and a high barrier property can be kept even under a high humidity condition.
